Now before you get all crazy with talk about how many handsets your favorite manufacturer sells worldwide every day, or how crappy the iPhone is, or how much you like 3G (check out our 3G shootout, by the way), just remember that the iPhone is Apple very first foray into the mobile phone market. So, with that out of the way, let’s get to the point.
France’s Orange network has just reported that they’ve moved 70,000 iPhones out their doors in the first month of sales. That works out to roughly 2,333 iPhones sold every day through Orange. If you’ll remember, Apple’s French iPhone-partner reported sales numbers of about 40,000 iPhone in the first five days of sales – which works out to about 8,000 iPhones per day.
Now, on the one hand, 70,000 units is not a bad number to play with. On the other hand, Apple and Orange saw sales-rates drop by more than 70%.
So, is the iPhone a hot seller worldwide? Is it the disappointment that soo many out there are hoping for? Stay tuned, Stevie will be dropping the sales-number-bomb on us in less than a couple weeks.
